This is a view from in front of our cottage in Mackinaw City. All the years of looking out at the water has helped to inspire us to
to explore more of our country's waterways.

Jekyll Island to Isle of Hope-Savannah, Georgia

We were docked between a power cat boat named Snow Cat and Mary Francis, Tuesday morning when we were to depart in very tight quarters, so  John from Mary Francis was out to assist and we were away with out any problems. Thanks John.   Our intentions at first were to go to a marina named Sunbury Crab Marina and Restaurant until we read the cruisers book a little closer and discovered that it would be a seven mile trip up another river to get to, so we then decided to look for an anchorage but after traveling for awhile and battling the large horse flies we decided that we would try for Isle of Hope, that would make it about 96 miles to travel in all.  We did get a boost from the currents in some places so that was helpful.  One of our longer days but not terrible just tiring. We called ahead to the marina, we had reservations for Wednesday, so  asked if we could come in on Tuesday instead.  It was ok with them but we had to spend the night on the gas dock and were not able to come into the marina until after five.  When  we arrived we were greeted by our good friend Chris from Southern Belle, she had been at the marina for the past 10-12 days while hubby Kerm was  back in MN. attending to family matters.  It was so good to be welcomed in that way.  We were both a little more tired than we thought so had a quiet dinner on board with plans to go out the following evening with all when Brown Eyed Girl catches up with us.

On Wednesday we caught up on laundry, went to the Wal-Mart with Mary and John who were also here, visited with Chris and went out for dinner in Savannah that evening with Chris, Mary and John from Mary Francis and Ginny and Craig from Brown Eyed Girl who had arrived late in the afternoon. It was fun to be all together and to talk about our past trips.

Thursday we decided to have a pot luck dinner at the marina.   I had a taste for lasagna so thought that it would be fun to make this to bring.  Also thought that we may need some brownies to go along with this, so made them as well.  We had lots of good food including Chris’s cheesy grits, fired chicken, peach cold slaw, cheese cake, OMG we were all very full.

Friday was spent in Savannah along with our fellow Loppers touring the city.  We had all agreed that the Old Town Trolley  tour would be a good option.  It allowed us to tour the city and learned some of the history, we were also able to get off and on as we pleased.  We visited the Maritime Museum and the Catholic Cathedral of  St. John, the old train station and round house.    Savannah is a beautiful old city with much to see.

Our plans are to leave early Saturday morning for Beaufort South Carolina, they are calling for rain over the next few days with the worst called for on Sunday so we will see what it is like and stay put if needed.

Happy weekend to all,

Mary and John

Savana looks like a really fun town to tour, especially the gardens and the market square area, reminded me a bit of Iowa City. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your lasagna, and you didn't get too hot baking it!
