This is a view from in front of our cottage in Mackinaw City. All the years of looking out at the water has helped to inspire us to
to explore more of our country's waterways.

Pirates Cove Marina

Things got off to a bit of a rocky start this morning as more than seven boats were leaving the marina for the lock that was close by ,  our friend Kadadi was pulling out of their slip and  they caught there dinghy on the dock and damaged the davit system.  John went over to see if he could help.  John from Kadadi decided that they would stay in Columbus and try and have the davits repaired before continuing down river.  We sure hope all goes well and we meet up with them again soon.  Mary called the Lock and the lock master was he very helpful he even held the lock for us until we got there.  We were out of the lock and on our way by 7:30 am.

Today started out with clouds and rain but as we pulled into the marina the clouds were breaking up and we could see some blue skies.  By the time we had reached our destination for the day and were all settled in it was quite sunny.

Some thing you wouldn't expect to see along a river bank.

We hiked over to the visitors center which was a reproduction of the type of mansion built along the Tombigbee river in the mid 1800's.  There were a lot of interesting exhibits about the Tenn-Tom Waterway System.

There was also an old snag boat, the US Montgomery which was the last steam operated stern wheeler in operation on the inland waterways of the South.  it was built in 1926 and retired form service in 1982.  It has been restored and is now in dry dock.  Unfortunately, it was closed for maintenance today. We did get to walk around it and view it from the outside.

We saw this Armadillo on our walk

No pirates found!

Tomorrow is anchor night as it's over 90 miles until Demopolis which is the next marina and the end of the Tenn-Tom and beginning of the Lower Black Warrior river, which will take us to Mobile.   Most likely we won't have Internet until the marina in Demopolis.
