Columbus Ms. Is the home of Columbus Air Force Base where many of our fighter pilots are trained. The number of landings and take offs at the base makes this the busiest Air Force base and also ranks it up there with O’Hare. The harbor master told us that the marina and lock was a designated turn around spot for the pilots, so the skies were quit busy into the evening. We felt right at home, since we are so close to O’Hare in Rolling Meadows.
On our second day here we were able to use the courtesy car to run errands with Southern Belle and Jeremiah and then John and I visited the Waverly Mansion. It was built in 1852 by Col. George Young and occupied by his sons until 1913, still kept by the remaining heirs but left for vandals to occupy until purchased by Mr. Snow in 1962 who with his family undertook restoration. Mr. Snow who is now 85, lives in the mansion today with his daughter and grandson. The mansion in still in need of upkeep but was furnished in the period with many beautiful antiques.

Ten of us used the courtesy car to go for dinner at Hucks a local restaurant highly recommended for its Cajun style home cooking. We enjoyed the food and most of all our company. We didn’t want to make the double trip back to the marina so with full bellies and all the ten of us piled into the van. Thanks to Marsha and John who were in “ the way back".

Okay, that is really funny that all ten of you fit into one vehicle after dinner, sounds like a good laugh was likely had by all. I'll have to tell Owen that you are heading for Pirates Cove in the morning, he will surely want to hear more of any pirate sightings...
