This is a view from in front of our cottage in Mackinaw City. All the years of looking out at the water has helped to inspire us to
to explore more of our country's waterways.

Joliet, IL

Due to the wind we ended up spending a couple of extra days in Chicago.  It was not that bad as we spent one day working on our tentative schedule between Chicago and the AGLCA rendezvous at Joe Wheeler in late October.  It turns out we have about 10 extra days at this point.  The second day Christy came and picked us up and we had an unplanned day in Oak Park with the grandkids, that we enjoyed very much.  There was a little bit left on our CTA fare card which was due to expire so we took the EL and a bus back to the harbor.

We left Chicago early, stopped for a free pump out, went through our first lock on the Loop and made it under all the bridges in Chicago with out a problem.

Our first bridge.

Trump Tower.

Wrigley Building.

Mary likes clean windows, but would not do this to get them.
After all the Chicago bridges and waiting for half an hour for the Amtrak bridge we we continued on the chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal.  Which was very industrial at time yet also very rural and would be quite impressive with fall colors.

What industry?

Unexpected sights joining the Cal Sag.

Cal Sag intersection.

Chicago Sanitary to the left and Cal Sag to the right.
Passed many barges tied up, one tug on the move and one tow getting ready to depart.  Then into our second lock at Lockport. We locked through with the Spirt of Whitby who we met at  DuSable Harbor and had been following since the Amtrax bridge and Passport's friend Salt and Sand.

Our first Big Lock.

A bridge closing after we passed through.

On the wall, John's pic.

We spent the night on the wall in Joliet along with the Spirit of Whitby, while Salt and Sand moved on further south.  Took a walk through Joliet and decided we would be moving on tomorrow.  Dale and Brenda Karlson, local AGLCA Harbor Host's stopped by to chat and share some of their experiences on the Loop.

Looks like a lot of fun to go through Chicago and under the bridges. Was Passport nervous in the first big lock?

It all looks so very grand. Hope the fall season brings good weather!
