We started looking for a boat to do the loop a few years ago. At the boat shows we fell in love with the 40' Mainship, unfortunately they were over our budget. In looking for used ones we came across the 350/390 model which while not having as many amenities as the 40 was quite nice and within our budget. So the hunt was on, we did look at other styles but kept coming back to the Mainship with it's actual stairs to the large fly bridge, galley up, lots of windows and two staterooms.
The Boat we found is a 1999 Mainship 350/390 trawler in Marquette, MI. After some back and forth with offers and our final willingness to accept a boat without the wood floor we are now under contract. We are currently trying to work out the details of survey, inventory inspection, closing and getting us up to Marquette to pick up the boat to bring it back to Mackinaw. This is quite a challenge given we live in the Chicago suburbs, our cottage is in Mackinaw and the boat is in Marquette.
At this point while we have the boat Mary is not ready to retire just yet. She has assured me that if we don't do the Loop this year we will next year "for sure".
